EDF: speech synthesis serving quality and responsiveness

The collaboration between Voxygen and EDF is based on long-standing trust. Indeed, Voxygen won EDF's first text-to-speech tender back in 2012.

Very early on, EDF was aware of the importance of quality customer service and the need to be able to manage the creation of messages in a reactive manner. In fact, its business requires relevant and immediate information for subscribers, particularly in the event of disruption to the network or a power cut.

Voxygen created EDF's first digital brand voice, Nathalie, over 10 years ago. A great deal of lexicon work was carried out at the time to ensure the correct pronunciation of cities and various specific data. The voice was used in the SaaS message creation tool Voxygen Studio for IVR messages and cohabited with Nathalie's natural voice.

At the end of 2018, EDF shifted up a gear on the omnichannel use of text-to-speech and deployed our on-premise Voxygen Server solution to improve the quality of its voice servers and cope with growing call volumes via innovative and personalised real-time interaction solutions.

The importance of TTS in everyday life is obvious, and in 2021 EDF decided to rejuvenate its voice identity by creating a new digital voice to embody the brand on voice servers. Voxygen was naturally put in charge of the project, and the new voice chosen by EDF was recorded in the Voxygen studio in Brittany. EDF was able to appreciate the quality of Laura's voice, which benefited from Voxygen's latest innovations, in particular the breakthrough provided by our neural synthesis technology.

It is now Laura who keeps EDF customers and subscribers informed 24/7 on the voice servers.
